1806 – 1872Benito Juárez (1806-1872)Died 18 July 1872, aged 66Benito Juárez was President of Mexico who led resistance to French intervention and the execution of Emperor Maximilian, restoring the Mexican republic. He remains a central figure in Mexican national identity for his defense of liberal reform and sovereignty.
1806 – 1861Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861)Died 29 June 1861, aged 55Elizabeth Barrett Browning, one of the most acclaimed English poets of the Victorian era, died in Florence, Italy. She was known for works including Sonnets from the Portuguese and Aurora Leigh. Her marriage to poet Robert Browning was itself famous in literary circles.
1806 – 1859Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859)Died 15 September 1859, aged 53Isambard Kingdom Brunel was an English engineer renowned for the Great Western Railway, the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and pioneering steamships including the SS Great Eastern. He died shortly after suffering a stroke, days after the Great Eastern's sea trials were marred by an explosion. He remains one of the most celebrated engineers of the Victorian era.
