It launched the Continental System, Napoleon's attempt to cripple the British economy through economic blockade. Britain responded with Orders in Council restricting neutral shipping.
1806Aaron Burr's conspiracy exposedFormer US vice president accused of plotting against the governmentIn November 1806, reports reached President Thomas Jefferson that former Vice President Aaron Burr was raising an armed expedition in the western United States, allegedly to seize territory in Spanish Mexico or incite secession. Jefferson issued a proclamation on 27 November 1806 ordering Burr's arrest. Burr was later tried for treason in 1807 and acquitted.
