1948Marshall Plan enactedUS Congress approves massive aid program for war-torn EuropePresident Truman signed the Economic Cooperation Act on April 3, 1948, launching the Marshall Plan. Over the next four years the United States channeled more than $13 billion into rebuilding Western European economies devastated by the Second World War.
