1859 – 1947Pierre Janet (1859-1947)Died 24 February 1947, aged 87Pierre Janet was a French psychologist and neurologist who pioneered the study of dissociation and traumatic memory. He introduced the term subconscious. He was an important influence on psychiatry and psychotherapy.
1893 – 1947Hans Fallada (1893-1947)Died 5 February 1947, aged 53Hans Fallada was a German novelist known for Little Man, What Now? and Every Man Dies Alone. His work described ordinary Germans during the Weimar and Nazi eras. He died in Berlin shortly before his final novel was published.

She later earned critical acclaim for dramatic roles including The Burning Bed. Her death from cancer came the same day as Michael Jackson's.

1947February 28 IncidentUprising in Taiwan is violently suppressedA confrontation over contraband cigarettes in Taipei on 27 February 1947 set off an island-wide uprising against the Kuomintang administration on 28 February. Nationalist troops sent from the mainland crushed it in March, killing thousands of people. The massacre was followed by decades of martial law.
