• 1882 – 1928 Arnold Rothstein (1882-1928) Died 6 November 1928, aged 46 New York racketeer and gambler who helped organise American organised crime in the Prohibition era. He was widely linked to the fixing of the 1919 World Series. He was shot during a poker game and died two days later.
• 1928 Herbert Hoover elected President of the United States Republican landslide over Al Smith Herbert Hoover beat Democrat Al Smith, the first Catholic nominee of a major party, and won 444 electoral votes. Hoover took several states of the traditionally Democratic South. He took office in March 1929, months before the Wall Street Crash.
