1857 – 1928Hermann Sudermann (1857-1928)Died 21 November 1928, aged 71German naturalist playwright and novelist, author of the play Heimat and the novel Frau Sorge. He was one of the most performed dramatists in Germany around 1900. Several of his works were adapted for film.
1865 – 1928Lala Lajpat Rai (1865-1928)Died 17 November 1928, aged 63Indian nationalist leader known as Punjab Kesari. He was part of the Lal Bal Pal trio of Congress radicals. He died weeks after police beat him while he led a protest against the Simon Commission in Lahore.
1882 – 1928Arnold Rothstein (1882-1928)Died 6 November 1928, aged 46New York racketeer and gambler who helped organise American organised crime in the Prohibition era. He was widely linked to the fixing of the 1919 World Series. He was shot during a poker game and died two days later.
1928Herbert Hoover elected President of the United StatesRepublican landslide over Al SmithHerbert Hoover beat Democrat Al Smith, the first Catholic nominee of a major party, and won 444 electoral votes. Hoover took several states of the traditionally Democratic South. He took office in March 1929, months before the Wall Street Crash.

He died on 6 July 2020 from complications of a fall.
