1847 – 1928Ellen Terry (1847-1928)Died 21 July 1928, aged 81English actress who was the leading Shakespearean actress of her era. She was Henry Irving's stage partner at the Lyceum Theatre for more than twenty years. She was made a Dame Grand Cross in 1925.
1880 – 1928Alvaro Obregon (1880-1928)Died 17 July 1928, aged 48Mexican revolutionary general and President of Mexico from 1920 to 1924. He had just been re-elected president when a Catholic militant, Jose de Leon Toral, shot him at a restaurant in Mexico City. His death led Plutarco Elias Calles to found the ruling National Revolutionary Party.
1928Shakhty TrialSoviet show trial of mining engineers for sabotageFifty-three engineers and technicians from the Shakhty coal region were tried in Moscow for alleged sabotage and conspiracy with foreign powers. Most were convicted, and five were executed. The trial set the pattern for later Stalinist show trials.

It lowered the voting age for women from 30 to 21 and gave them the vote on the same terms as men. About five million more women became eligible to vote.
