1923Corfu incidentItaly bombards and occupies the Greek island of CorfuAfter Italian General Enrico Tellini was killed on the Greek-Albanian border, Italy demanded reparations from Greece and, when rebuffed, bombarded and occupied the island of Corfu. The League of Nations brokered a resolution under pressure from Britain, and Italian forces withdrew after Greece paid an indemnity. The crisis was an early test of the League's authority against a major power.
