• 1921 Kronstadt rebellion suppressed Bolshevik forces crush the sailors' uprising at Kronstadt naval base Sailors and workers at the Kronstadt naval base near Petrograd rose up demanding political freedoms and an end to Bolshevik one-party rule. The Red Army under Mikhail Tukhachevsky stormed the fortress across the ice, crushing the revolt after roughly ten days of fighting. Thousands were killed or later executed, and the episode pushed Lenin toward the New Economic Policy.
