• 1918 Azerbaijan Democratic Republic proclaimed First secular parliamentary republic in the Muslim world The National Council in Tiflis declared the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic following the breakup of the Transcaucasian Federation. It was the first parliamentary republic in the Muslim world and extended voting rights to women. The republic was absorbed into Soviet Russia in 1920.
• 1918 Battle of Cantigny First major American offensive of World War I The US 1st Division captured the village of Cantigny from German forces in France, marking the first significant American offensive operation of World War I. The assault demonstrated that US troops could hold ground against German counterattacks.
