1918 – 1988Richard Feynman (1918-1988)Died 15 February 1988, aged 69Richard Feynman was an American theoretical physicist who shared the 1965 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on quantum electrodynamics. He also served on the panel investigating the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster and was widely known for his popular science writing. He died of cancer in Los Angeles.
1918Georgia declares independenceDemocratic Republic of Georgia foundedThe National Council of Georgia proclaimed the Democratic Republic of Georgia, ending union with Russia amid the collapse of the Transcaucasian Federation. The new state was led by the Georgian Social Democratic Party. It survived until the Red Army invasion of 1921 brought Georgia under Soviet control.
