1906Russia's First State Duma convenesRussian Empire holds its first elected parliamentFollowing the 1905 Revolution, Tsar Nicholas II convened Russia's first elected legislative assembly, the State Duma, in the Tauride Palace in Saint Petersburg. Dominated by liberal and reformist deputies who clashed with the autocracy, the Duma was dissolved by the Tsar after just 72 days.
1906The First DumaSeventy-three daysRussia's first elected parliament opens in the Winter Palace. The liberal Kadets dominate it, and it immediately demands land reform, a full amnesty and ministers answerable to the chamber. The government refuses everything.
