1906Bambatha Rebellion breaks outZulu-led uprising against poll tax crushed in NatalChief Bambatha kaMancinza led an armed uprising among Zulu communities in the British colony of Natal against a newly imposed poll tax. Colonial forces crushed the rebellion within months, killing several thousand Africans in one of the last major armed uprisings against colonial rule in southern Africa.

Around two hundred deputies cross into Finland and issue an appeal from Vyborg urging Russians to refuse taxes and conscription. Almost nobody does. The signatories are prosecuted and barred from standing again, which removes much of the liberal leadership from public life in one stroke.
