1833Oberlin College foundedNew Ohio institution opens admission to women and Black studentsOberlin Collegiate Institute opened to its first students on 3 December 1833 in Ohio. It became the first American college to admit women alongside men and one of the first to admit Black students, and it developed close ties to the abolitionist movement. It later grew into Oberlin College.
