1748 – 1832Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832)Died 6 June 1832, aged 84Bentham was an English philosopher and jurist who founded modern utilitarianism, arguing that actions should be judged by the greatest happiness they produce. His ideas influenced legal and social reform across Britain and beyond. He died in London, and per his instructions his body was preserved as an "auto-icon," which is still on display at University College London.
