1775 – 1829Maximilien Sébastien Foy (1775-1829)Died 28 November 1829, aged 54Foy was a French general who distinguished himself in the Napoleonic Wars, particularly during the Peninsular War, and later became a prominent liberal politician in the Chamber of Deputies. His funeral in Paris drew an enormous crowd and became a rallying point for liberal opposition to the Bourbon monarchy. His death is sometimes cited among the grievances that fed into the 1830 revolution.
