1778 – 1829Humphry Davy (1778-1829)Died 29 May 1829, aged 50Davy was an English chemist who discovered several chemical elements, including sodium, potassium, and calcium, and invented the Davy lamp for miners. He was a leading figure of the Royal Institution and a formative influence on his assistant Michael Faraday. He died in Geneva after years of declining health.
