1773 – 1829Thomas Young (1773-1829)Died 10 May 1829, aged 55Young was an English polymath whose work established the wave theory of light through his double-slit experiment and who made major contributions to the study of elasticity, vision, and energy. He also contributed early breakthroughs toward deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs on the Rosetta Stone. He died in London after a long illness.
