• 1829 Joseph Smith begins dictating the Book of Mormon Translation work with scribe Oliver Cowdery begins Joseph Smith began dictating the text that would become the Book of Mormon to his scribe Oliver Cowdery in Harmony, Pennsylvania. The two completed the bulk of the manuscript within a few months, and the book was published the following year. It became the foundational scripture of the Latter Day Saint movement.
