• 1819 Walter Scott publishes Ivanhoe Historical novel of medieval England appears Sir Walter Scott published Ivanhoe, a historical novel set in twelfth-century England amid tensions between Normans and Saxons. It was his first major work set outside Scotland and became hugely popular across Europe. The novel helped shape the modern romantic image of medieval chivalry and Robin Hood.
