1807Robert Fulton's steamboat completes maiden voyageFirst commercially successful steamboat service beginsRobert Fulton's steamboat, later known as the Clermont, traveled roughly 150 miles up the Hudson River from New York City to Albany starting 17 August 1807, arriving in about 32 hours. It proved steam-powered travel was commercially viable and launched regular passenger service on the Hudson. The achievement helped spark the steamboat age in the United States.
