The academy was created to train engineers and officers for the small standing army. It remains the oldest continuously operating military academy in the United States.
1802Treaty of AmiensPeace agreement ends the War of the Second CoalitionGreat Britain and France, along with Spain and the Batavian Republic, signed the Treaty of Amiens on 25 March 1802, ending nearly a decade of war. Britain agreed to return most colonial conquests, while France withdrew from Naples and Rome. The peace proved short-lived, collapsing within a year.
