He later formed a short-lived coalition government with Charles James Fox. He died in London on 5 August 1792.

His mills established the factory system that became central to the Industrial Revolution. He was knighted in 1786 and died at Cromford, Derbyshire, on 3 August 1792.
1792Storming of the Tuileries PalaceParisian insurgents overrun the royal residenceOn 10 August 1792 a mob of Parisians and National Guardsmen stormed the Tuileries Palace, killing most of the Swiss Guard defending it. King Louis XVI and his family had already fled to the Legislative Assembly for protection. The attack effectively ended the French monarchy's power and led to the king's imprisonment.
