1609Twelve Years' Truce signedSpain and the Dutch Republic halt the Eighty Years' WarOn 9 April 1609 Spain and the Dutch Republic signed the Twelve Years' Truce at Antwerp, suspending the Eighty Years' War. The truce granted the Dutch Republic de facto recognition and freedom to trade in Asia and the Americas. Fighting resumed in 1621 when the truce expired.
