Despite his close standing with the king, he was convicted of treason and executed at Southampton on 5 August 1415. His betrayal was particularly notable given his prior intimacy with Henry V.

• 1415 Southampton Plot Conspiracy to replace Henry V with Edmund Mortimer uncovered before the Agincourt campaign A group of English nobles conspired to assassinate Henry V and place Edmund Mortimer, Earl of March, on the throne before the king's planned invasion of France. Mortimer himself revealed the plot to Henry, and the ringleaders were swiftly tried and executed at Southampton in early August 1415. The episode removed a lingering Yorkist threat to Henry's rule just before he sailed for France.
• 1415 Siege of Harfleur Henry V's first conquest after landing in Normandy Henry V landed in Normandy in August 1415 and besieged the port town of Harfleur, which surrendered after five weeks on 22 September. The siege cost the English army heavily through dysentery and combat losses, delaying and weakening the force that would go on to fight at Agincourt. Harfleur was garrisoned and held by the English for years afterward.
