1924 – 2019Robert Mugabe (1924-2019)Died 6 September 2019, aged 95Robert Mugabe led Zimbabwe as prime minister and then president from independence in 1980 until he was forced from power in a 2017 military coup. His early land reforms and later authoritarian rule and economic mismanagement left a deeply contested legacy. He died in a Singapore hospital.
2019Galaxy Fold — foldable smartphone era beginsSamsung launches the Galaxy Fold — the world's first commercially available foldable smartphone — in September 2019, after a delayed launch due to screen durability issues. At $1,980, it is the most expensive mainstream smartphone ever made. The Fold opens a new product category that Samsung dominates: by 2023 Samsung sells over 10 million foldable phones annually. The Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip lines become Samsung's most distinctive premium products.
