2005Israeli disengagement from GazaIsrael withdraws settlers and troops from the Gaza StripIsrael evacuated all of its settlers and military forces from the Gaza Strip and four West Bank settlements between August and September 2005, ending a 38-year occupation of the territory. The unilateral withdrawal, ordered by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, was completed on 12 September 2005. It remained one of the most significant shifts in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of the decade.
