2003Death of Dolly the sheepFirst cloned mammal put down at six years oldDolly, the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell, was put down at the Roslin Institute in Scotland after developing a progressive lung disease. She was six years old. Her birth in 1996 had transformed public and scientific debate about cloning.
