1995France resumes nuclear testing at MoruroaTests provoke international protestsFrance, under President Jacques Chirac, resumed underground nuclear weapons testing at Moruroa Atoll in French Polynesia after a three-year moratorium. The decision provoked international protests, including from Greenpeace and Pacific governments, and diplomatic friction with New Zealand and Australia. France ended the test series and signed the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty the following year.
