1913 – 1992Willy Brandt (1913-1992)Died 8 October 1992, aged 78Willy Brandt served as Chancellor of West Germany from 1969 to 1974 and pursued a policy of reconciliation with Eastern Europe known as Ostpolitik. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1971 for these efforts. He resigned as chancellor after an aide was exposed as an East German spy.
