1992First planets beyond the solar system confirmedPulsar planets found orbiting PSR B1257+12Astronomers Aleksander Wolszczan and Dale Frail announced the discovery of planets orbiting a pulsar, the first confirmed exoplanets. The bodies orbit the neutron star PSR B1257+12 roughly 2,300 light-years from Earth. The finding showed planets could form in environments very different from our own solar system.
