1987First DNA mass screening leads to arrest of Colin PitchforkGenetic fingerprinting used for the first time to solve a murder caseBritish police conducted the world's first mass DNA screening, testing blood samples from thousands of men in Leicestershire to find the killer of two teenage girls. The screening led to the arrest of Colin Pitchfork after a coworker was caught taking the test in his place. It was the first criminal case solved using genetic fingerprinting, a technique developed by Alec Jeffreys.
