• 1986 Dele Giwa killed by letter bomb Nigerian journalist assassinated in Lagos Prominent Nigerian journalist and magazine editor Dele Giwa was killed by a parcel bomb delivered to his home in Lagos. His death, days after questioning by state security agents, was widely seen as an attack on press freedom under military rule. No one was ever convicted for the killing.
