1977Tenerife airport disasterWorst aviation accident in history — 583 killedTwo Boeing 747s collided on the runway at Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife on March 27, 1977. A KLM plane took off without clearance and struck a Pan Am aircraft in thick fog. All 248 on the KLM plane and 335 of 396 on the Pan Am plane were killed — 583 in total — making it the deadliest aviation accident in history.
