1894 – 1972Edward, Duke of Windsor (1894-1972)Died 28 May 1972, aged 77As King Edward VIII, he abdicated the British throne in 1936 to marry the American divorcee Wallis Simpson, one of the most famous royal scandals of the twentieth century. He lived most of the rest of his life in France with the title Duke of Windsor. He died of throat cancer in Paris.
