1971Bangladesh Liberation WarPakistan's civil war ends in Bangladeshi independenceFollowing a Pakistani military crackdown on Bengali nationalists, the Mukti Bahini waged a nine-month war for independence. India intervened militarily in December, and Pakistani forces surrendered in Dhaka on 16 December 1971. The war created the new nation of Bangladesh and one of the largest refugee crises of the century.
