1968Fair Housing Act signedUS law bans discrimination in the sale and rental of housingPresident Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, whose Title VIII prohibited discrimination in housing based on race, religion, and national origin. It was pushed through Congress in the week following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Sex was added as a protected category in a later amendment.
