Somerset Maugham was an English novelist and playwright, one of the most popular and highly paid authors of the interwar period, known for works including Of Human Bondage and The Razor's Edge. He also worked as a British intelligence agent during World War I. He died at his home in Nice, France, on 16 December 1965.
