• 1963 The Feminine Mystique published Betty Friedan's book helps launch second-wave feminism Betty Friedan's book The Feminine Mystique challenged the idea that women could only find fulfillment as housewives and mothers. It became a bestseller and is widely credited with sparking the resurgence of the American feminist movement. Friedan went on to co-found the National Organization for Women.
