1956Poznan protests erupt in PolandWorkers' strikes crushed by Polish security forcesWorkers in Poznan, Poland, staged mass protests and strikes against communist rule, demanding better working conditions and political change. Polish security forces and the army suppressed the uprising, killing dozens of protesters. The unrest contributed to political changes that brought Wladyslaw Gomulka to power later that year.
