1954Algerian War of Independence beginsFLN launches coordinated attacks across AlgeriaThe National Liberation Front (FLN) launched a wave of attacks on French targets in Algeria on 1 November, an event later called Toussaint Rouge. The uprising began an eight-year war that ended with Algerian independence in 1962. It became one of the defining conflicts of postwar decolonization.
