• 1954 1954: Juan Manuel Fangio Maserati / Mercedes Fangio won his second title, starting the season with Maserati before switching to the dominant Mercedes-Benz W196 mid-season.
• 1954 First coast-to-coast color television broadcast NBC airs the Tournament of Roses Parade in color NBC transmitted the Tournament of Roses Parade live in color across the United States, one of the first major coast-to-coast color broadcasts. Few viewers owned color sets at the time, making the event mostly a technical demonstration. It marked an early step in the commercial rollout of color television.
• 1954 Harvard PhD Completed his PhD at Harvard University, where he would later join the faculty and become a prominent professor of government.
