1862 – 1954Auguste Lumiere (1862-1954)Died 10 April 1954, aged 91Auguste Lumiere, with his brother Louis, invented the Cinematographe and screened some of the first motion pictures in 1895, pioneering cinema as a medium. He later turned much of his attention to medical and scientific research. His work laid the technical foundation for the film industry.
