1914 – 1953Dylan Thomas (1914-1953)Died 9 November 1953, aged 39Dylan Thomas was a Welsh poet celebrated for works including "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night" and the radio drama "Under Milk Wood." He died in New York City during a lecture tour, his death long associated with heavy drinking though the exact medical cause was disputed. He remains one of the most widely read poets of the twentieth century.
1953Cambodia Gains IndependenceEnd of French colonial ruleCambodia achieved full independence from France after negotiations led by King Norodom Sihanouk. The transfer of sovereignty ended nearly ninety years of French colonial administration in the country. Sihanouk had campaigned personally and internationally for independence in the preceding years.
