1887 – 1953Jim Thorpe (1887-1953)Died 28 March 1953, aged 65Jim Thorpe was an American athlete of Sac and Fox descent who won gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympics before also playing professional football and baseball. He was stripped of his Olympic medals over amateurism rules, a decision posthumously reversed decades later. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-around athletes in history.
