1923 – 1953Hank Williams (1923-1953)Died 1 January 1953, aged 29Hank Williams was a pioneering American singer-songwriter whose songs helped define modern country music. He died of heart failure in the back seat of his car while being driven to a concert, exacerbated by alcohol and chronic back pain. He remains one of the most influential figures in American popular music.
