1919 – 1952Eva Peron (1919-1952)Died 26 July 1952, aged 33Eva Peron, the influential First Lady of Argentina and wife of President Juan Peron, died of cervical cancer on 26 July 1952. Known as "Evita," she championed workers' rights and women's suffrage and was revered by much of the Argentine working class. Her body was embalmed and became the subject of a decades-long saga before permanent burial.

King Farouk abdicated three days later and went into exile. The coup ended the Muhammad Ali dynasty and led to Egypt becoming a republic the following year.
