He was a trusted ally of Britain during both World Wars. He died at his farm near Pretoria.
1950Inchon LandingUN forces stage amphibious assault behind North Korean linesGeneral Douglas MacArthur commanded a UN amphibious landing at Inchon, Korea, catching North Korean forces off guard. The operation relieved pressure on the Pusan Perimeter and allowed UN forces to recapture Seoul days later. It is regarded as one of the most successful amphibious operations in military history.
