1948Assassination of Folke BernadotteUN mediator killed by Zionist militants in JerusalemSwedish diplomat Folke Bernadotte, the United Nations mediator for the Arab-Israeli conflict, was assassinated in Jerusalem on September 17, 1948, by members of the militant group Lehi. He had proposed a peace plan for Palestine that was rejected by both sides. His killing led to the banning of Lehi and drew international condemnation.
1948 – 2003John Ritter (1948-2003)Died 11 September 2003, aged 54John Ritter was a comic actor best known for the sitcom 'Three's Company', which ran from 1977 to 1984, and later '8 Simple Rules'. He died suddenly of an undiagnosed aortic dissection while at work on his television series, a week before his 55th birthday.
