• 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted UN General Assembly proclaims a common standard of human rights Meeting in Paris on December 10, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, drafted under the chairmanship of Eleanor Roosevelt. It set out fundamental rights and freedoms to be universally protected and became the foundation for subsequent international human rights law. The date is still marked annually as Human Rights Day.
